The House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill that would extend the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund for decades.

Legislators are now calling on the Senate to quickly vote on the Never Forget the Heroes bill so it can be brought to the president.

"In the nearly 18 years since the attack, the death toll continues to rise," said Rep. Carolyn Maloney. "We as a nation have a moral obligation to take care of the people who took care of us and those who take care of them because they can no longer work."

The bill is named after 9/11 first responders James Zadroga, Ray Pfeiffer and Luis Alvarez.

Sen. Charles Schumer is calling on Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to push the bill to a vote and pass it as is.

"It has gotten the support of both the Democratic and Republican leaderships," Schumer said. "No games--do not attach this bill to something else where it might get messed up."

Supporters of the bill say it is long overdue. They want to see it passed by the Senate before the upcoming recess on Aug. 2.
