Holtsville residents are outraged over a plan to build a Topgolf complex in their community.
Dorothy Mauri and many of her neighbors feel a world-class golf and entertainment complex is going to cause all sorts of problems. The $25 million, three-story facility would be located just off the LIE service road and west of Nichols Road.
The project has already gotten the go-ahead from the Brookhaven Town Board, but still needs planning board approval.
Neighbors say the range's nets would tower 160 feet over their homes.
"So when you wake up and you look out your window, you are going to see that black netting over those tree lines," says neighbor Michael Torres.
Dallas-based Topgolf did not comment to News 12 on its Long Island plans, but its other locations have bright lights, live music and feature restaurants and bars.
The town says this will be the first Topgolf facility in New York, and could bring excitement, increased tax revenue and 500 jobs to the area.
At this point, many neighbors says Topgolf will get the approval to build their facility. So now, they are hoping the company listens to their concerns, but some are skeptical that Topgolf will.
"It's a corporate organization, there is not much trust in these organizations because they are looking at the bottom line," says neighbor Charles Comstock.
The next planning board meeting on the facility will be in September. If approved, the estimated construction could last about a year.
