A local landmark and church is now being tended to after serving the people of the Bronx for more than a century.

The Church of St. Anselm and St. Roch on Tinton Avenue received a $40,000 grant from the New York Landmarks Conservancy to make long awaited exterior repairs.

Some murals inside the church have seen some wear due to leaks, among other issues that could cost millions to make a full repair.

The pastor of the church says the Byzantine revival structure is very rare, especially in New York City.

He is hoping fundraising will help the church also make interior repairs.

The house of worship is modeled after a former church and now museum in Istanbul. Parishioners take pride in the church's Beuronese art style.

"The art work makes this special. The artist spent six years painting murals," says Fr. Enrique Salvo. "This has been a long time coming, so I am thrilled to see it happen."

The church serves a large immigrant population with three Sunday masses, two in English and one in Spanish.
