Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony Santino says he is working to combat what he calls beachside terror insects.
He says the town is sending workers into the salt marsh at Lido Beach to install 25 fly boxes to fight large greenhead horse flies.
"Greenhead flies will be attracted to these traps," Santino says. "While the exact science behind the attraction that the trap holds for greenheads is a subject to debate, it is known that greenhead flies are attracted to heat and dark colors."
The pesticide-free solution is expected to catch over 60,000 green head flies per day.
