Friday was the last day on the job for Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony Santino.
The Republican lost his bid for re-election to Democrat Laura Gillen last month.
Santino will be taking a $160,000 a year job as an administrative assistant at the Nassau County Board of Elections.
Gillen said today that Santino's new job is another example of the Nassau Republican machine taking care of their own at the expense of taxpayers.
"Earning the same salary that he earned as the supervisor of the Town of Hempstead for a no-show job on the Board of Elections, it's just sticking it to the taxpayers once again," said Gillen.
Before becoming supervisor in 2015, Santino had been a Hempstead councilman for 22 years and a longtime advisor to Nassau Republican Party Chairman Joe Mondello. That's why many political analysts say it's no surprise that Santino landed softly after losing the election in November.
"It's typical," says analyst Michael Dawidziak. "Now, if the voters want to get outraged at this being typical, they may. But shock? If they've been paying attention, they shouldn't be shocked."
Gillen will be sworn in as supervisor Monday.
Santino did not return News 12 Long Island's calls for comment.
