Suffolk County health officials say there are more mosquitoes this year than in years past due to the increased rainfall in the month of June.

Suffolk County Health Commissioner Humayun Chaudhry says the department has set mosquito traps around Long Island and has noticed an increased number of the insects. Both Nassau and Suffolk counties have tested more than 60 different types of mosquitoes, none of which have West Nile virus.

Chaudhry says it is imperative to get rid of stagnant water or to notify the Department of Public Works of any standing water near residential areas.
