Health department finds troubling trends in the Bronx
A new study that has been released by the city?s health department hands down a poor grade for the Bronx .Overall, the health department reports better health in the city as a whole this year. However they admit there are significant gaps in each neighborhood?s health in comparison to each other. This includes statistics such as HIV and mental illness, which are both highest in the Bronx. They say up to 10 percent of all adults in Central Bronx, Fordham and Bronx Park are suffering from mental illness.The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has opened new locations in some of the most troubled areas across the city to assess the problems. One of these offices is now located in the South Bronx. The health department also says they will meet with community organizations, medical providers and elected officials to discuss problems in specific neighborhoods.
