The Housatonic Community College Foundation says it has raised $60,000 in relief funds to help students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Antonia Oglesby is a political science major who says she lost all three of her jobs because of coronavirus, and her husband also lost his job.
Her family, which includes her 5-year-old son and her brother, were having a hard time making ends meet. Her son's father also lost his job.
Then, right before Easter, she says she cried when she got $500 from the foundation.
"I was able to get my son his Easter present. I was able to buy Easter dinner. I was able to pay my electric bill, and I was able to put gas in my car and put some money off to the side also," she says.
Oglesby says she wants to be a civil rights attorney and eventually a congresswoman.
The HCC Foundation has been around for 20 years. The group says the emergency fund was created two years ago.
