Hackensack University Medical Center hosted its annual Youth World AIDS Day Conference Friday.

Doctor Gary Munk says the program is meant to remind young people that the risk of HIV hasn't gone away and to let them know that it's OK to ask questions.

"Some people are just uncomfortable socially having these conversations,” he says. “But what we hope they left with -- they have smartphones, they have the ability to ask questions on the internet privately, and they know now they have a welcome mat to come into health care or resources that can help them better understand their strategies of their own life and their individual choices."

Roughly 300 high school students and faculty members attended the conference.

Nearly 25% of Americans that have HIV don't know they're infected.
