Greg Schiano is back in Piscataway, and he's wasting no time visiting recruits at their homes and schools to try and make them a Scarlet Knight.
Schiano coached Rutgers from 2001 through 2011 before leaving to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Following a stint at Ohio State and a resignation from the Patriots before even coaching a game, the 53-year-old has returned.
It's a frantic scramble to rebuild the team that hasn't won more than four games in a season since 2014. Schiano says he's ready for it.
"I like organized chaos, that kind of keeps me going. I'm not sure everyone around me loves it, but that's OK, it will settle down," he says.
As for who will make up Schiano's roster -- he says he expects a mix of top recruits and others with something to prove.
"We're going to have five-star and we're going to have two-star players, and I don't really care about stars. You look at the NFL, I was a head coach in the NFL, worked alongside a GM and made draft selections. You watch the other teams in the league spend millions and millions of dollars on gathering information, evaluating players, yet they make mistakes," he says.
News 12's Nick Medanis sat down with Schiano in a special edition of Friday Night Football. Click here to watch their full conversation.
