The Greenport Brewing Company confirmed Monday that a worker tested positive for the coronavirus.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone gave a briefing about the Suffolk County coronavirus patient Monday morning. Officials say the patient is a man in his early 40s who remains in isolation at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. They say his condition is improving.
A spokesperson for the Greenport Brewing Company issued a statement saying, "The sick staff member notified them yesterday afternoon, but has not been to work in two weeks since February 24. Any food service and our tasting room in Peconic will remain closed through the end of this week. A qualified cleaning company has been contracted to perform a deep cleaning of the premises."
The company says it contacted the Suffolk County Department of Health, notified all employees, and followed CDC recommended guidelines. It says the DOH expressed its approval of their actions.
Bellone also announced that Suffolk Transit buses would be sanitized more frequently and that Suffolk employees are now restricted from non-essential travel.
In Nassau County, officials stressed the that the county is prepared. The county also showcased a bus called the MERV, which can be used to evacuate large groups of people from a nursing home or provide medical treatment on the spot.

Mattituck-Cutchogue Union Free School District sent a letter to families saying that the Suffolk County Department of Health confirmed that one of its own employees works at the same brewery as the patient does, but has not been in direct contact with them and shows no signs of illness.
However, the school district says it is having its employee self-quarantine until they are cleared by their physician and deemed as unaffected.
“We're continuing to work closely with NYS Department of Health to perform a comprehensive investigation into anyone who might have been exposed to the virus is isolated..." says Bellone.
He adds that 18 people in the county have been tested so far, and some of the results are still pending.
