GOP lawmakers: Cuomo's budget too harsh on LI schools
HUNTINGTON STATION - Elected officials, parents and local school officials met at Walt Whitman High School today to bring attention to Long Island districts facing major budget cuts.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo's newly proposed state budget calls for school cuts across the region, which would send many districts reeling. Republican state assemblymen representing Nassau and Suffolk counties are now fighting for that education aid, claiming that the governor's plan will severely impede the quality of education.
The budget is expected to be approved in late March. Lawmakers say they will do what they can until then to increase for Long Island schools.
