Golden Hill Rehab in Milford says it is providing staff with personal protective equipment and raised their pay by 100% following accusations of improper procedures taken during a coronavirus outbreak at the facility.
The state says the situation at the facility is still under investigation. Officials announced last week that half of the residents living there had coronavirus, and at least two have died.
An employee told News 12 that staff did not use proper protection, and that a nurse was still working there after reportedly testing positive for coronavirus.
Golden Hill Rehab says it’s also providing new N95 masks daily. It also asked to be designated as a COVID-19 facility by the state, saying that "will allow us to access additional support and resources. The facility has been told by the state that funding is currently unavailable to us. Being a facility that represents a large minority population we feel funding should not be withheld."
Barbara Cass from the state Department of Public Health announced Wednesday that Golden Hill will not be one of the COVID-only facilities in Connecticut. She said state investigators are in contact with the facility daily to make sure there are adequate staffing levels and personal protective equipment. The department announced that all COVID-19 patients will go to either an Athena Home Health facility in Fairfield County or the Sharon Health Care in Sharon. Alternate care sites would be in New Canaan and Torrington.
