Funeral services were held in Westbury Wednesday for a Sept. 11 first responder who died from pancreatic cancer linked to the time he spent at Ground Zero.

Robert Langer, 62, was a 26-year member of the Westbury Fire Department. He died last week after a two-year battle with the disease.

Bobby, as Langer was known, drove the Westbury Fire Department ambulance into the city after the attacks and volunteered with search and rescue units.

His cancer treatment was partially covered under the Zadroga Act, a national fund set up to compensate victims who got sick or died as a result of the Sept. 11 attacks at the World Trade Center. It's set to expire in October and run out of money next year.

Langer also worked as a driver for Newsday for 30 years before retiring. He was also an umpire for baseball leagues in Nassau County.
