Funeral services were being held Sunday for a Dix Hills native who died in the Florida school shooting.

As News 12 reported, hero geography teacher 35-year-old Scott Beigel saved many lives in the shooting last Wednesday.

Witnesses say he unlocked his classroom door, braved gunfire and pulled students inside until the moment he was shot.

Beigel's loved ones gathered at a synagogue in Boca Raton. It was one of many funerals and memorials held for victims in recent days.

A group of students who survived the shooting are calling on others to march on Washington D.C. next month in a push for gun control legislation.
