Foster care advocates outside Borough Hall Friday fought to make sure kids in the system get a fair shot in life.

Fair Futures, a coalition of foster care advocates, called on Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council to hear their call for $50 million in funding they're asking to be included in the city budget.

Those involved say the funds would go toward mentoring and supporting kids who age out of the foster care system. They believe such services will deter from a life of crime and living in city shelters.

According to city statistics, the Bronx has the highest number of foster care placements. About 700 kids across the city age out of the system each year.

City Council has already budgeted money for the Fair Futures plan in their preliminary budget. It will now have to be negotiated to be in the official budget by July 1.
