A Fort Greene deli owner has taken a stand against the Trump administration’s immigration policies by adding two signs on his storefront.
A banner on the front of Ralph's Deli says, "Holding kids hostage is an act of terrorism." Right below is an additional sign.
The signs are a response to the immigration policies that have separated thousands of children from their families, leaving them detained in juvenile facilities, after their parents were detained at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The owner, Ralph Jawad, taped up the signs just a few days ago, and he says the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
People have been coming to the deli, taking photos and posting them to social media. Film director Spike Lee also posted a photo, receiving thousands of likes.
Jawad is an immigrant from Palestine who came to the U.S. as a child and now is raising his family in Brooklyn.
Nearby, many stores have signs like this one on their windows, which Jawad calls a good start because he says those kids represent everyone.
