News 12 New Jersey viewers had a lot of say about a recent Kane In Your Corner investigation that found that parents are often separated from their children while flying in basic economy seats.
Kane In Your Corner found that unless travelers are willing to pay for upgraded seats, most airlines won’t guarantee seat assignments.
News 12 interviewed Liling Pang, who said that she was separated from her 5- and 8-year-old children during a flight.
“What happens if there was an emergency? Who was going to take care of him?” she asked.
Many News 12 viewers have strong opinions about the story.
Terry writes: "Airlines are out of control…nickel and diming everything."
Roger adds: "Had this happen to me. My mistake was not reserving then confirming seat assignment. Won't let it happen again."
But Andre says, "This happens when you want to fly cheap and not pay the extra fees. In other scenarios being nice at the check-in or by the gate will allow you to rearrange the seats."
But News 12 found that this is not always the case. Pan says that it happened to her after her flight was rebooked.
Some viewers said that passengers should be willing to do their part to make sure families stay together. Viewer Lynn says, “I have switched seats with parents who didn't even ask me to. It's the decent thing to do."
