Firefighters battle tractor-trailer fire in North Bay Shore

A tractor-trailer burst into flames in North Bay Shore on Thursday afternoon.
The vehicle caught fire around 1 p.m. in front of Water Lilies Warehouse, a food distribution company, on 5th Avenue, fire officials say.
Firefighters had to use foam to help extinguish the flames because of the diesel fuel involved.
Islip Town’s Hazardous Materials Response Team was notified to remove and secure the remaining fuel inside the truck.
The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is looking into any potential environmental impacts.
The driver was able to get out safely and no injuries were reported.
