Fire officials: Crews battle fire at Cupsogue Beach in Westhampton
The pavilion and concession area at Cuspogue Beach in Westhampton was destroyed after it erupted in flames Saturday night.
The Westhampton Beach Fire Department battled the blaze with assistance from 14 other departments, according to fire officials.
Firefighters say their efforts were hampered by strong winds, and the nearest fire hydrant was 2,000 feet away.
Residents in the area say the flames could be seen from miles away.
The cause of the fire remains unclear. Fire officials and the Suffolk County Arson Squad are investigating.
No injuries have been reported.
