LINDENHURST - Today's anniversary was bittersweet for many Sandy victims along the South Shore.

One full calendar year has passed since Sandy flooded most of Long Island's South Shore. But Fran Dawson, of Bay Shore, says it's as if time has stood still. Her home was gutted two weeks after the storm, and she has been living in an upstairs bedroom waiting for financial aid that she says may never come.

Dawson says she was behind on her mortgage payments before the storm, and now, she's facing foreclosure.

Over in Lindenhurst, Lynne Ferrandino's home of 40 years has already been raised and is two months away from being finished and then refurnished. She says it's almost unbelievable to think that a year has passed.

"We're getting better," Ferrandino says. "You have to have faith and hope, and hopefully I have enough of that to get us through."
