WOODBURY - Help could be on the way for Sandy victims still waiting for insurance payouts.

Nassau Legislator Dave Denenberg filed two new bills today targeting banks and insurance companies still holding onto payouts for Sandy victims.

The first requires insurance companies to approve claims within 30 days of any major disaster, and the second would mandate banks to release insurance money to homeowners more quickly.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has promised a crackdown on insurance companies that are dragging their feet, but Denenberg says the state needs to move faster.

"Something has to be done, and to say we're going to wait for the state, we've been waiting five months, and Nassau County has never taken a back seat when we can act," Denenberg says.
