WOODBURY - The Long Island Power Authority has picked a new leader.

LIPA trustees have tapped John McMahon take over as chief operating officer. McMahon had previously worked at Con Edison for more than three decades.

McMahon will take command in the wake of the utility's Hurricane Sandy response failures.
