BABYLON - A couple who has been struggling to rebuild after Sandy now says a LIPA truck destroyed their cars.

Jennifer Powers and her partner Sharon Veltre just moved back into their Babylon home. They say a LIPA utility truck hit the couple's two parked cars a week and a half ago in front of their home on Little East Neck Road South. The cars sustained damage, and some of the items temporarily stored in the vehicles were destroyed.

Based on the level of damage, Powers and Veltre believe the truck was driving fast before the crash, but they say there's a stop sign just four doors from their home. They say they wonder how the accident could have happened if the truck had stopped seconds earlier.

The driver told police he was "temporarily distracted" ahead of the crash.

LIPA says it is in contact with the couple and that the company will pay up in a matter of weeks.
