LONG BEACH - Long Beach firefighters are driving more than 200 miles to say goodbye to an upstate firefighter who joined Long Island's bravest in helping Sandy victims.

After Hurricane Sandy blew through Long Beach, firefighters had many of their brothers from all over the state on hand to help out.

Each department signed a wall in the firehouse before they went home, but Chief Richard Corbett says one signature stands out - that of Captain Matthew Porcari, of the Owego Fire Department.

The 34-year-old worked a 72-hour deployment and then returned a couple of days later to cook for everyone living in the firehouse.

The father of two died Monday night fighting a house fire in his home county.

Some members of the Long Beach Fire Department are heading to Owego this weekend for Captain Porcari's wake and funeral.
