WOODBURY - Gov. Andrew Cuomo has appointed a new chairman of the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA).

The governor chose Lawrence Waldman for the job. Waldman is a current LIPA board trustee who serves as chairman of the board's finance and audit committees.

Waldman replaces Howard Steinberg, who resigned last month amid the fallout over the utility's Superstorm Sandy response. LIPA's chief operating officer, Michael Hervey, has also announced he will resign by year's end.
