OCEANSIDE - U.S. troops overseas will be able to get into the holiday spirit this season thanks to the generosity of some Long Island residents and the 12th annual Trees for Troops campaign.

Dee's Nursery & Florist in Oceanside played host to DHL's "Operation Holiday Cheer." Co-owner Joe DiDomenico says the tradition began when a woman came into the shop to send a holiday tree to her recently deployed son.

In addition to trees, children are sending gifts and letters to the troops.

The trees received a police escort to John F. Kennedy International Airport.
