WOODBURY - You don’t have to head to the gym to get a good workout. Gym Guyz, who bring the gym to you, offers up some tips and exercises you can do right at home or in a park or wherever to get that beach body!
Jo-Ann Houston, a Gym Guyz trainer, says it’s important to mix in cardio blasts with strength training. The cardio bursts are done in 30-60-second intervals depending on your strength level, and are done between exercises such as a squat-with a leg raise or an ab bridge with a pelvic thrust. Cardio blasts can be anything from jumping rope and jumping Jacks to mountain climbers and split jumps.
Motivation is key when working out. And what better way to get motivated than by working out with a partner or loved one! Houston says doing push-ups with a high-five in between or even sit-ups with a ball pass are great exercises to incorporate a partner into. You can have fun when you work out!
All these exercises are for both men and women, but here are some moves the gentleman may like before they hit the beach. To get a better chest, Houston suggests doing a Spider-Man push-up, which incorporates legs into a regular push-up. She also suggests using bands for resistance training, instead of the fall-back of dumbbells. To make a regular bicep curl slightly harder, Houston recommends including core training by standing on one leg. And of course, don’t forget your cardio blasts. Some high-knees or high box jumps are a perfect way to confuse those muscles and tone up!
