WOODBURY - It’s National Ice Cream month, which is just in time for News 12 Long Island’s 12 Weeks of Summer food week! News 12’s Alex Dollin has your guide to the best places to cool down with ice cream.

At the Ice Cream Cottage in Mastic, John Pastore has been making ice cream from scratch for more than 20 years. “We’re not a franchise, so we basically invent our own flavors,” says Pastore. Those flavors – garlic, pork and beans and wine sorbet! On Tuesdays, they offer buy one, get one free deals.

In Miller Place, McNulty’s is rolling out summer flavors, such as peach and blueberry. On Monday’s, bring your children for kids’ night.

Across the county line you can travel back in time. Hildebrant’s in Williston Park offers an old-fashioned egg cream or root beer float, while you sit at their ice cream counter. Krish’s in Massapequa uses a machine from the 1920s to make fresh ice cream every day. Try the homemade whip cream or vanilla bean ice cream made with imported Madagascar vanilla beans for a tasty treat.
