An EMT worker who was fatally stabbed while on the job in Queens has been identified as a Huntington Station woman, according to officials.
Officials say the 61-year-old woman was fatally stabbed around 2:20 p.m. She was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital shortly after.
The NYPD and FDNY have identified the victim as Lt. Allison Russo. She is a 25-year-veteran of the FDNY.
A press conference held by Mayor Eric Adams, the FDNY and NYPD was held at Mount Sinai Hospital just before 6:00 p.m.
The commissioner of the FDNY says that Russo was stabbed multiple times in a "barbaric and unprovoked attack".
She was a World Trade Center first responder, and is the second member of the EMS to die in the line of duty in the last five years.
NYPD Chief Essig said that Russo was going to get food at the time of the incident, and that the suspect is a 34-year-old male wearing a light grey shirt and grey pants.
Two eyewitnesses knew the perpetrator, and provided the NYPD with his address. The NYPD then took the suspect into custody, where he was taken to the 114th Precinct.
NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell and other officials are asking those to keep the FDNY and their workers in their hearts at this time.
Huntington Town Supervisor Ed Smyth called Russo a selfless professional and a dedicated mother and daughter.
The FDNY says she is survived by her daughter and her parents.
