A popular Long Island Rail Road parking lot will be closed for at least six weeks.
The Farmingdale LIRR train station south parking lot will undergo six to eight weeks of renovations.
News 12 spoke to the village of Farmingdale, which manages the parking lot. It said the $1.2 million renovations need to be done and once they are done, customers will be happier.
Crews will renovate the parking lot to make more spaces and to fix potholes.
Mayor Ralph Ekstrand says flowers and trees will be planted. There will also be LED lights added to the lot.
Some commuters say they were not aware of the plans to close the parking lot. Village officials admit they only gave commuters a week notice about the repaving and repairing project.
"The parking lot is closing in on 30 years old," Ekstrand says. "It needs to be redone like anything else that is 30 years old."
The south lot that will be closed has 255 spaces, but Ekstrand says there are four village parking lots a few blocks away that can easily accommodate the extra vehicles.
The mayor says commuters will not get a partial refund on the $100 yearly fee they pay to use the parking lot.
