Family of missing Freeport man pressures Nassau police to further search
The family of a missing Freeport man says they are frustrated with the efforts of Nassau police to find their loved one.
Saturday will mark a week since 40-year-old Dennis Jones, of Freeport, went missing.
Jones’ family has taken the search into their own hands, saying Nassau police just aren’t doing enough.
Jones has a history of drug addiction and has been arrested on drug possession charges.
However, his family says that doesn’t explain why the father never came home to his 7-year-old son for Christmas.
Aly Jones, sister of Dennis Jones, jumped into Milburn Pond, where police say Jones and his boots were last seen. She said she wanted to retrace her brother’s footsteps.
She and her family are putting pressure on the Nassau County Police Department, who the Jones family says has been dragging their feet to get a sonar boat to inspect the pond.
"I went to my car and put my waders on and I jumped in right in front of them,” said Aly Jones.
The Nassau County Police Department said in a statement that they are "utilizing all resources and technology while attempting to locate" Jones.
Nassau County Police says they have since scheduled a sonar boat to search Milburn Pond on Saturday morning.
