The family of the Ecuadorian immigrant stabbed to death in Patchogue in November met with Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota Tuesday.
Marcelo Lucero?s family members say they?re seeking the maximum sentence for the teens accused of killing their loved one. Lucero?s mother Rosario and sister Isabel flew to New York from Ecuador earlier this month to see the seven accused teens face a judge. The teens are facing hate crime charges among others.
Fernando Mateo, of Hispanics Across America, joined members of the Lucero family for the meeting with Spota. Mateo says the meeting was positive.
?We basically have had nothing but cooperation from the DA's office,? Mateo says. ?The Lucero family knows and understands that he is defending them, that he is part of our team.?
Lucero?s family members say they just want justice to be served.
?She says she doesn't have hate, she doesn't want vengeance, revenge. She says none of that is in her heart. All she wants is whatever the law dictates,? Mateo says, translating for Rosario Lucero.
