Ex-Locust Valley teacher, John Benstock, avoids jail time in child sex assault case

MINEOLA - A former Locust Valley teacher pleaded guilty today to sexually abusing four children, but he will not serve jail time under the terms of his plea agreement.

John Benstock admitted to sexually abusing four girls in front of 10 other children, some as young as 7. According to the charges, the incidents took place at Locust Valley Intermediate School, as well as at the Bayville Intermediate School.

Under the plea agreement, Benstock will serve six years of supervised probation, give up his teaching license and register as a sex offender for the next 20 years.

Benstock is expected to be sentenced on May 3.
