(AP) - A retired New York City policeofficer has pleaded not guilty to allegations that he kicked downthe door of his estranged wife's Long Island home, pulled out a gunand shot her five times.
The woman survived but remains hospitalized.
Forty-three-year-old Darryl Fowler was ordered held on $1million bail or $2 million bond during a Saturday court appearancein Central Islip.
He faces charges including attempted murder and criminal use ofa weapon.
Prosecutors say that after shooting his wife at her MiddleIsland home on Tuesday, Fowler tried to drive away. Instead, hesideswiped an ambulance driving to his wife's house.
Fowler's attorney says his client was a NYPD officer for 10years and had no prior criminal history.
