SAYVILLE - The Miss New York Pageant will be held this weekend, and Miss Long Island Michelle Medoff is getting ready.

Medoff has been making her way to various charity events on Long Island since winning the title in August. To prepare for Miss New York, Medoff has been working out daily, as well as eating healthy.  “You need to be in tip top shape because you have to wear a swimsuit, you also have to wear an evening gown,” says Medoff.

As for competing in pageants, Medoff says she got into them on a whim, but now she loves competing.

“It’s something I fell in love with for personal reasons, and also philanthropy is such a big part of it,” Medoff says.

After losing her older brother to a drug overdose this past summer, Medoff says she’d like to help other addicts. “I’d like to see something good come out of it and for his legacy to help other people,” says Medoff.

Medoff will be judged in three categories, swimsuit, evening gown and an interview portion. The final show will be held Sunday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Purchase College Performing Arts Center in Harrison, N.Y.
