UNIONDALE - Aspiring singers and groups descended upon the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale today for auditions for season three of the Fox show “X Factor.”

Those looking to wow the judges with their talent needed to register and get a wristband before the event. They add that auditioners were not permitted to camp out at the Coliseum.

"X Factor" executive producers say this was the only open audition in the northeast, so people traveled from as far as Virginia for a chance to sing before music producers. The producers also say 16,000 people registered for a chance to win a recording contract. According to show officials, those who make it through this first round have to come back over the summer for a chance to sing before celebrity judges and Simon Cowell.

Solo artists or groups over the age of 12 are allowed to audition. There is no age limit, as one man was 81 years old. Those who couldn't make it down for the open call auditions in person still have time to submit a two-minute a cappella audition video online. Online auditions will be open through June 15 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time.
