Demolition began on parts of a Fort Lee apartment that was decimated by a massive fire last week.
Caravella Demolition began work on Saturday night and have already picked up a large amount of debris and scrap metal from the apartment.
A fire wall was created to save some of the apartments as flames ripped through the building.
Those working on the demolition say that figuring out what to do with the salvaged apartments is their next step.
"We're going to need to make a cut down the building. This front side across the roof and down the back side so they skin the fire," said Lester Baldwin of Caravella Demolition. “The material that burned away from the fire wall so they can get in to see if the fire wall is safe."
The owner of Caravella Demolition, John Caravella, says a portion of the earnings from the scrap metal will be donated to those who lost their homes.
News 12 is told demolition should be completed by Tuesday or Wednesday.
Fort Lee officials set up a GoFundMe page Friday to help the displaced victims.
The borough hoped to raise $20,000 and has already raised $26,000.
