Two dogs that were found tied to a lamp post outside of a firehouse in Dix Hills are being reunited with their owner.

It turns out that the pair of husky puppies had gotten away, and were not abandoned.

Officials say the dogs had been picked up by a passerby near the Long Island Expressway Service Road. They were taken to the fire station on Carll's Straight Path in Dix Hills by a good Samaritan.

The Dix Hills Fire Department had said that the dogs were found tied to a pole around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

"We gave them comfort, untied them, gave them food and water, and we brought them inside, kept them warm, played with them, called the Town of Huntington Animal Control and the Suffolk County Police Department," says Larry Feld, the Dix Hills fire commissioner.

The pups were taken to the Town of Huntington Animal Shelter, where they spent the night.

News 12 is told that the owner of the dogs was heading to the shelter today to retrieve them.
