Some motorists are livid after a gas station in Franklin Square accidentally put diesel fuel in a premium tank, causing damage to vehicles.
Andrew Lazzarano said he couldn't believe it when the BMW he just bought a couple of months ago suddenly would not start.
“It kept bogging out, stalling out, and black smoke was coming out. I was like, ‘what's going on here?’” he said.
After his mechanic said he had filled his car up with diesel, the Garden City South resident was left paying for the costly repairs up front. He's just one of the motorists who have contacted News 12 about the problem stemming from the Bolla gas station on Hempstead Turnpike.
A spokesperson for the Nassau Department of Consumer Affairs said proper measures were taken to address the gas station issue.
Lazzarano told News 12 that Bolla promised to reimburse him for the repairs.
“I know it's an accident, things do happen. But it cost me a lot of money to get my car fixed. I also missed two days of work because of this,” said Lazzarano.
News 12 reached out to a spokesperson for Bolla, but they have not returned a call to comment.
Anyone that may have been affected by the issue can call the Nassau Department of Consumer Affairs at 516-571-2600.
