RXR Realty and BSE Global developers have agreed to a $1.5 billion project for the 72 acres around the Nassau Coliseum.
County officials say the plan includes 500 units of housing, 600,000 square-feet of office and biotech research space, 200,000 square-feet of retail space and two pedestrian bridges.
It also includes plans for bus transportation to and from the Mineola train station and 3,400 parking spaces.
"It's right in the heart of our county,” says Nassau Executive Laura Curran. “Here we have a real plan to grow the tax base to create housing, create high wage jobs and to create a real destination."
County officials say the plan does not require a zoning change from the Town of Hempstead.
Curran is expected to bring the plan to the Legislature for approval early next month.
