Residents in Hempstead are in a heated debate tonight over the future of a vacant school building.
A 112-unit senior housing complex has been proposed to be built on the site of the former Seaford Avenue School.
The sale of the property was approved by referendum vote last year.
However, the developer of Seasons at Seaford is now asking for a zoning change. The change would include fewer parking spots per unit.
Residents say they are also concerned about drainage from the community, as well as how the large senior community could change the character of the neighborhood.
The Hempstead Town Board has not voted on the zoning change, and did not say when it would make a decision.
