A Democrat who is not supported by the party has announced he's running for Oyster Bay Town Supervisor.
Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos announced that Jericho Attorney Jonathan Clarke will challenge Dr. Marc Herman in a Democratic primary for Oyster Bay Town Supervisor.
Maragos is not his party leader's choice for county executive, but the former Republican is running a Democratic primary race against Legislator Laura Curran.  Curran is backed by the Nassau Democratic Committee.  Maragos is recruiting a slate of candidates that he insists are "independent Democrats" to run primary races against party backed contenders up and down the ballot.  On Thursday, he announced Clarke’s run against Herman.
“The party bosses control the politics, they are the root of the corruption and patronage, and that cannot change unless we change the political system,” he says.
Nassau Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs insists the newly Democratic Maragos is engaging in a "political circus act,” adding “George is nothing more than a professional con man who is feebly attempting to pull the wool over Democrat's eyes in September."
Curran, Jacobs and many other Nassau Democrats are preaching the need for unity in a year where they say they feel pretty good about their chances. When News 12 asked Curran on Wednesday if she thinks Maragos should leave the race, she said simply, "United we'll win."
