Declan Quinn’s bar in Bay Shore to close after fire code violations
Declan Quinn's, a family-run bar in Bay Shore, will be shutting down Saturday.
The Tufano family says the bar's troubles began during the World Cup when they got a visit from the town fire marshal. Although the bar's maximum occupancy is supposed to be just 75 people, the place was packed with nearly 1,000. Soon, there were three more visits from the fire marshal, resulting in five more violations.
Carmine Tufano says what sealed the bar's fate was a cease-and-desist order barring live music because of the property's zoning. He says live music is the reason customers would show up.
The family told News 12 that they have held many fundraisers over the years trying to help out the community as much as possible. But when they reached out to town leaders with numerous emails and letters asking for help, they were met with almost complete silence.
"This building is going to be vacant because we can't continue and we're taking a massive loss," said Sonny Tufano. "There's nothing else we can do."
An Islip Town spokesperson says they cannot comment on the situation because of pending code violations in court.
