The clock is ticking for anyone who wants to sign up for health care through the state marketplace for this year.

The New York state deadline to enroll for health care through the Affordable Care Act is Jan. 31.

Mishelle Calo, of Bayville, owns her own real estate business. Her husband is also self-employed, so they don't get health insurance through work. Calo says paying for private insurance is out of the question.

"It's extremely expensive," she said.

Calo says she re-enrolls every year in plans under the Affordable Care Act.

Jason Samel is an insurance broker who specializes in signing people up for plans offered on the state-run health plan marketplace. He says income doesn't matter -- there's a plan for everyone.

Keep in mind, there is currently no penalty for choosing not to have insurance. President Donald Trump's administration got rid of the individual mandate.

For anyone who misses the deadline, the only way to still sign up is with what's considered a qualifying life event. That usually includes a birth, marriage, divorce or a major change in finances.
