A Coram woman has been arrested and is accused of trying to kill her newborn.
According to police, Felicia Squillace gave birth at her home on Homestead Drive on April 27.
She then allegedly wrapped the baby in a plastic bag and tried to put him in a garbage bin outside.
Police say two other residents of the house heard the baby crying, took the bag from the mother, took the baby out and called police. Squillace allegedly struggled with them to get the boy back.
A police officer performed CPR on the baby, who was taken to the hospital and is now in the custody of Child Protection Services. The child will go through the foster care process.
Squillace, 26, was taken to the hospital and then arrested. She is being held on $500,000 bond and faces attempted murder charges.
While walking out in handcuffs this morning, Squillace said, "No, I did not try to kill the baby, it was premature at birth."
Neighbors claim Squillace is a known prostitute who is addicted to crack cocaine and also has mental issues.

Officials are reminding the public of safe haven laws that allow people to drop off a newborn at any hospital, police or firehouse -  no questions asked.
