A Lindenhurst woman is accusing a contractor of taking thousands of dollars and failing to finish the work to repair the damage Superstorm Sandy did to her parents' home.
"There is still plumbing that has to be finished, electrical work that has to be finished," Rosa Torero says. "Framing for the bedroom has to be finished."
Torero says her parents paid John Walsh of Erin's Pride Construction a $180,000 down payment after he said he'd have repairs done in less than a year. That amount is half of the contract's total.
Complicating matters, Torero says subcontractors are complaining that they haven't been paid, and Walsh has not responded to her emails or phone calls.
"They worked hard for this house," she says of her parents. "It's a shame they are not enjoying it."
Suffolk Consumer Affairs says Erin's Pride Construction has three active complaints in Suffolk County. The Nassau County counterpart says there is another active complaint there.
Walsh did not immediately respond to calls from News 12 Long Island, and no one answered the door at his Hauppauge home.
