Consumer Alert: Hyundai Tucson tops Car Complaint Index
The 2017 Car Complaint Index is out and some New Jersey residents say that they are surprised by which vehicle ranks as the one with the most complaints.
The list is put out annually in “The Car Book,” a publication released by the Center for Auto Safety. Automotive Consumer Advocate Mike Sacks says that the index is based on complaints made to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The No. 1 vehicle on the list this year is the Hyundai Tucson, which surprised some people. Sacks says that it is a very popular compact SUV, but it is not without issue.
“Folks are complaining that all of a sudden, they're driving and they're completely losing power. They don't know what's going on,” Sacks says.
The second vehicle on the list is luxury electric car, the Tesla Model S. Sacks says that some drivers have complained about their vehicles surging or lunging.
The third car is the Volvo XC-90.
“Volvo is a wonderful company. They treat their customers very fairly. But folks are complaining about electrical problems with their vehicles. They're complaining about loss of power, but also the dashboard suddenly isn't working,” Sacks says.
No. 4 on the complaint index is the Chrysler 200. “The Car Book” lists this car as one of the best buys for its reliability and safety. But Sacks says that some drivers have had issues with the vehicle.
“Again, loss of power and stalling,” he says. “There’s also significantly transmission troubles.”
The full list of cars on the index can be found HERE.
