LINDENHURST - A tragedy-stricken Lindenhurst family has been blessed by their community after a heartbreaking 2012.

In June, 18-year-old Brittney Walsh was struck and killed by an alleged drunken driver. Four months later, the Walshes' home was flooded out by Hurricane Sandy.

However, thanks to a neighbor's entering them into an "Adopt-A-Family" contest, the Walshes will now receive $35,000 in home repairs for free. More than 20 local businesses are donating labor and materials.

As for their daughter's death, the man accused of killing Brittney Walsh is awaiting his trial. Michael Grasing, of Babylon, pleaded not guilty in July to an 11-count indictment that included second-degree murder.
