The Islip Animal Shelter says adoption fees will be lower at the shelter this week as part of an extension of this weekend’s Clear the Shelter Day.

Clear the Shelter Day is a national event that seeks to help find homes for the many animals living in kennels across the country.

Sixty dogs at the Islip Animal Shelter are up for adoption alongside 22 cats and one parakeet.

"It brings awareness to the shelters and all the stray dogs that are in the shelters,” says Teri Giacalone, of the Islip Animal Shelter. “So it's very important to get this out there that all these dogs need homes and it's better to adopt than to buy."
